Kristy Woodson Harvey

Kristy Woodson Harvey is the New York Times, USA Today, and Publisher's Weekly bestselling author of eleven novels including A Happier Life, The Summer of the Songbirds, and The Peachtree Bluff Series. She is the winner of the Lucy Bramlette Patterson Award for Excellence in Creative Writing and a finalist for the Southern Book Prize. Kristy lives on the North Carolina coast with her husband, son, and dog, Salt, where she is (always!) working on her next novel.

Q & A with Kristy Woodson Harvey

Q: What is your favorite aspect of the creative process?

A: I love the first-draft time when the ideas are just flowing and everything feels fresh and new, and I can’t help but think that this is the best book I’ve ever written. It’s a glorious moment because it is quickly followed by, this is the worst book I’ve ever written. But that beginning part that feels like being struck by lightning is pure magic!

Q: What would you want to tell everyone that reads one of your books?

A: Eleven books in, I am still so shocked and honored and beside myself when someone chooses to read one of my books. And when they leave a good review or reach out to say it touched them in some way… Well, that’s just the pinnacle for me. I am so grateful to every, single person who reads my books. I get to do what I love because of each person who supports my work!

Q: What's your favorite season and why?

A: Summer. Summer. I have published love letters to summer, in fact. I don’t know if it’s a holdover from being a kid, but everything feels less serious in summer, and I love when my son is out of school. Plus, living at the beach, it’s so fun when my friends from out of town come down. All the seasons are great, but summer takes the cake!

Q: What are 3 things that inspire you?

A: The water, fresh flowers, and a clean, shiny new notebook!
